The School of Biological, Environmental, and Earth Sciences (BEES) at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) seeks 10 undergraduate students to take part in our summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). This REU SITES program is focused on the ecology of the Gulf Coastal Plain, a biologically rich and ecologically important area of the country that is also home to large populations of students underrepresented in science. The goals of this REU program are to build student enthusiasm and preparation for ecological research, develop students' scientific skills using a diversity of field- and lab-based techniques, and facilitate hypothesis driven research relevant to the students' experiences.
